At Look East, we are happy to welcome all patients over the age of four, with any type of insurance or even without insurance!
Our comprehensive eye examinations go far beyond checking to see if you need an updated glasses or contact lens prescription. Even if you have great vision and no symptoms, it is still essential to have a full eye examination every 1-2 years.
Did you know that you can develop freckles inside of the eye just as you do on your skin? Did you know these freckles could turn cancerous? Did you know that they cause no symptoms and can only be detected through a full eye examination?
Freckles are just one example of the types of conditions our doctors can detect during an exam. They will also check for signs of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and many other eye diseases. The majority of eye diseases, that cause permanent blindness are irreversible and have no symptoms until they reach the advanced stages. Additionally, an eye examination can reveal signs of underlying medical issues such as diabetes, increased risk of stroke, and cancer. It may sound dramatic, but having an eye exam can truly be the difference between life and death!
Beyond the medical importance for a comprehensive eye exam, it is also a time that we can truly connect with our patients and discuss any symptoms, concerns or questions they have regarding their current or future eye health and care! Whether we are discussing different contact lens options or candidacy for LASIK surgery, the effects of color deficiency on their child’s future, or the risk of inheriting a family eye disease, our doctors want to make sure that you feel heard, understood, and leave with clear answers to all of your questions!
We value your time, comfort and health
When you come to Look East for an eye examination, we strive to make your experience as comfortable and seamless as possible! We don’t believe that proper care can be provided in a 15 minute time slot and understand that every patient is different, so we make sure to always schedule adequate time for each exam.
We empathize with the fact that a doctor’s appointment may cause anxiety and do everything we can to make you feel welcomed and relaxed. This includes consistently updating our equipment to provide the most efficient and comfortable care possible!
We don’t do the “puff of air” test!
The dreaded “puff of air” test is a technique used to check the pressure inside of the eye, which can indicate your risk for glaucoma. Most patients hate this test because it is unpredictable, uncomfortable, and anxiety-inducing.
We have replaced the air puff with an instrument called iCare that can obtain the same reading but is gentle, comfortable, and feels just like a quick tickle of the eyelashes!
Wide Field Retinal Imaging on all patients!
Dilation drops are used to relax the muscle inside of the eye that controls pupil size so our doctors can fully evaluate your retinal health. Dilated eye exams are essential for certain patients, including those with a high nearsighted prescription or patients with an increased risk of developing ocular diseases.
Dilation drops have developed a bad reputation over the years, as they take 30 minutes to work, last for 4-6 hours, and can cause light sensitivity, difficulty with near vision, nausea and headaches.
For this reason, unless dilation is deemed medically necessary by our doctors, we are often able to use our Optomap camera to take a photograph of the retina instead of using dilation drops. This imaging takes only a few seconds, causes no side effects, and provides us with a storable image we can use for comparison over the years. In many offices, Optomap imaging is an extra charge, but at Look East, we offer this for free, because we truly value our patients’ comfort and our quality of care.
